I was born and raised in Switzerland on goats milk,
goat cheese and lots of vegetables! In the early 1960's I immigrated
to the United States. Here, I met my husband, married and we raised
three children.
In 1978 we moved to Silicon Valley,
California where I had a successful real estate career. IN 2002 we
moved again and this time to Grass Valley, California to follow my dream of
raising animals. Here we purchased a 32 acre ranch. I purchased
several Shetland Sheep and soon realized they were hard to handle and also
needed shearing. We had one processed for our freezer meat but it was very small.
While at the butcher's shop he showed us some Katahdin sheep that he had on
his pasture. He recommended if we wanted to raise real meat sheep, to
switch to Katahdin Sheep!
We purchased a pregnant Katahdin ewe and a wether lamb to keep her company. After she delivered twins we used one of
them for our freezer meat. It was DELICIOUS! From that day on,
we
fell in love with the Katahdin sheep breed. They have a sweet and friendly
personality, no shearing required, easy lambing, excellent mothers and are
parasite tolerant. We then added 11 quality Katahdin ewes from that
same breeder. We soon realized that we needed a new bloodline since the
Katahdin sheep in California started to become to closely related. In 2005
we
attended the Katahdin Hair Sheep International Expo in Louisville, KY. There
we
purchased 2 Katahdin rams and 8 Katahdin ewes from the top breeders in the country. In
the spring of 2006, we lambed 50 lambs from 4 different bloodlines. At the 2006
KHSI Expo in Jefferson City, MO, we purchased more Katahdins to give our
bloodlines a good mix, bringing in another ram and two
more ewes.
We currently have 6 different
bloodlines to choose from. All of our sheep are DNA tested for disease
resistance. Our flock is registered with the state of California for the Volunteer
Scrapies program. All of our sheep have been tested for OPP & CL.
Come visit us at the ranch for your
top quality breeding stock. We have rams, ewes and lambs for sale.
We can help you expand your flock or create a starter package using several
different blood lines.
